In the Dead of Winter

In the Dead of Winter is a Halifax music festival that was created by Heather Gibson with local musicians Jill Barber, Rose Cousins, Jenn Grant, and Amelia Curran. The festival will bring a jolt of life and energy to the otherwise dark and chilly end of January.

The headliner this year is Grammy award-winning Shawn Colvin. If you don’t know who she is, here’s a quick refresher.

Yeah, you know that song.

The music starts tonight (with Don Brownrigg opening for Shawn Colvin at the Rebecca Cohn Auditorium) and runs through Saturday with shows all over the city. Tickets range from $10 to $32.50.

The line-up is pretty fantastic. Some of the artists you can look forward to seeing include:

  • Martha Wainwright
  • Whitehorse
  • Steven Bowers
  • Kev Corbett
  • Lennie Gallant

… and many, many more. Go check it out!

Aside: Wikipedia tells me that Shawn Colvin is in fact 56 years old. Wow. I hope I look that good when I’m 56.
